Physical Therapy CPT Code

Physical Therapy CPT code or Current Procedural Terminology Codes are the codes used to describe the services performed by the provider.  These codes are used to report the services that were provided to the patient.  There are certain codes used specifically for physical therapy.  Those codes range from 97001 - 97599.  CPT codes are copyright protected by the AMA.

If a CPT code indicated that it is used to report each 15 minutes of service, you would indicate this with the use of the units.  We explain this fully in our book with examples.  Not all insurance carriers reimburse physical therapy for all codes.  Some allow a global fee per visit.  Make sure you are billing out these charges correctly with our new downloadable ebook "Introduction to Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy Billing".

Each year the CPT codes are updated.  It is important to check for changes.  It is not necessary to purchase a new book each year if you are only using the PT codes.  There are other ways to check for changes.  Physical therapy CPT Code books can be purchased at Amazon at a reasonable price.

Medicare usually posts any changes on their website.  If you belong to an organization for PT's, they will usually notify you of upcoming changes.

It is important that you use the most current CPT codes.  If you are using an outdated CPT code your claims will most likely be denied.
