A CPT Code Book is used by the medical profession to look up Current Procedural
Terminology Codes or CPT Codes. The codes clearly identify
the procedures that the doctor is performing on the patient.
CPT Codes are standardized and updated yearly. It is very important
that you use the most current codes as codes that have been eliminated
will cause insurance claims to be denied. It doesn't pay to purchase
an outdated CPT book.
When medical insurance
claims are submitted to the insurance carriers, CPT codes along with ICD9 or diagnosis codes must
be entered on the claim to indicate what services were provided to the patient. Many times it is necessary to look
up the correct code in the book.
CPT codes are listed in
numerical sequence and have an alphabetical
index of the procedures to make it easier to find what you
are looking for. Many courses and classes are available to learn
about medical coding and several different editions of the books are available. Amazon.com offers a wide range of both books.
